Assumption Feast of St. Mary

The Assumption Feast of St Mary and Convention was held from 12 to 15th August. Rev. Fr. Thomas John, Director of Karunya Guidance Center, Thiruvananthapuram was the main speaker and chief speaker. The faithful gathered in numbers to celebrate the holy feast and share in the word of God.

Martha Mariam Samajam Unit Level Competitions

​

The Martha Maria Samajam held their annual competitions on 27th August. The events included Quiz, Group and Solo Song, Elocution and Quick Bible Reading. There was enthusiastic participation among the Samajam members.

Onam Celebrations

 

Onam celebrations were held on 3rd September 2017. The program was blessed and inaugurated by our Vicar, Rev. Fr. Sajeev K Varghese and followed by various games and cultural programs put up by the Sunday school children and spiritual organizations. The church members clapped in unison to the melodious tunes and grooved to catchy dance music. The event was capped off with a delicious Ona Sadya.

September 23-24, 2017

Sunday School Unit Level Competitions

​

The Sunday School competitions were held on 23rd and 24th September 2017. Events included Drawing, Singing (English and Malayalam), Story Telling (English and Malayalam), Elocution (English and Malayalam), Quick Bible Reading, Quiz, English Essay and Bible Verses (Oral and Written). The students came well prepared and there was healthy competition across categories.

The winners of the various competitions participated at the District level competition at Dighi church on 29th October 2017.

Sunday School Conference

​

The Orthodox Syrian Sunday School Association of the East (OSSSAE) held the Student's Annual Conference on 30th September 2017 at our church under the guidance of Fr. Jackson Mathews John. The theme for the conference was 'Serve God with Reverence and Godly fear' - Hebrews 12:28. Over 150 students participated from parishes across Pune. The day turned out to be a blessed experience for the Sunday School children.

Blood Donation Drive

​

The youth movement organized a blood donation camp in our church after the Holy Qurbhana on 8th October from 11 am to 2 pm. A team from Jehangir Hospital facilitated this camp. In our Vicar's words, blood represents life and donating blood is like donating life for a person in need.

​

The event started off with our Vicar, Rev. Fr. Sajeev Varghese, inaugurating the event and registering himself as the first donor. Tinu Thomas gave the welcome speech. We had around 30 members who came up to participate in this noble cause. Out of these, 17 were found suitable for donation. All these 17 members were given a token which they can use to reimburse a unit of blood from the blood bank at Jehangir in the future. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Donny Peter.

Orthodox Vacation Bible School

​

Orthodox Vacation Bible School was held from Oct 19 to 21st under the leadership of our Vicar and Brother Bejoy Jacob. The theme was 'God Moulds Us' taken from Isaiah 64:8. There were eight age categories as Beginners, Primary, Juniors, Intermediate, Secondary and Seniors. There was enthusiastic participation from our Sunday School kids. The closing ceremony was held after church on 22nd Oct, with the kids taking out a rally followed by presentation of songs and skits that the kids learned over the 3 days. This was a blessed experience for our children.

The Sunday School District Level Competitions were held at the Dighi church on 29th October. Our children made St. Mary's OSC proud with a commendable performance bagging 3 group champion awards and first prize in quiz competition apart from other prizes. The group champions were

Ecumenical Carol Singing Competition

​

The Ecumenical Carol Singing Competition 2017 was held at St. Alphonsa Forane Church, Kalewadi on 10th December. The St. Mary's OSC ecumenical choir team put up a dazzling performance and walked away with the second prize.

Christmas Carol Programme

 

The Christmas Carol Programme was held from 14 to 22 December with one day dedicated to each Prayer Area. We had an enthusiastic lead in our Vicar, who visited all the homes this year. It was a joyous experience with the choir groups singing and glorifying God while Santa Claus regaled the children with his goodies. Though the house visits often extending late into the cold nights, it was a truly warm experience and we were able to take the glad tidings of the season to the homes in our parish.

January 22-24, 2018

Nineveh Lent (Moonu Nombu) and Retreat

​

The fast of Nineveh is a three-day lent recognized by the Orthodox Church, which begins Monday, January 22nd and lasts until January 24th. During this fast, we remember the three days Prophet Jonah spent in the belly of a large fish as penance for his disobedience to God and the atonement of the sinful city of Nineveh.

​

During these three days, we should look at our lives and show remorse for our disobedient natures and follow in the footsteps of Prophet Jonah and the people of Nineveh. As with all other fasts/lents of the Holy church, the fast of Nineveh is observed by refraining from the intake of meat products.

​

There was Sandhya Namaskaram on all three days and a retreat was organised on 24th January, the last day of the lent at 9:30 am. Holy mass was also offered at 6:30 pm on the last day of the lent.

Harvest Festival

​

The Harvest Festival of the parish was held on 26 January 2018. Stalls with an array of food items were put up area wise, and also by the Youth, Sunday School and Martha Mariam Vanitha Samajam group. MGOCSM organised the games for the evening.

 

The church website, www.stmarysoscpune.com was officially launched by our Vicar during the festival. Auctions were held with great enthusiasm and various cultural programs were put up by our members thus paving way for a fun filled and blessed evening.
